about tourism in Manali, Himachal Manali stands high at an altitude of 2050 meters above sea level at the head of the Kullu valley. The beauty of the resort is enhanced by the Beas that flows through it. The river with the wild flowers, hamlets and fruit-laden orchards present the gifts of the sight, sound and smell. Manali Travel Attractions The smaller and more modern Himalayan Nyingamapa Gompa stands nearer the bazaar, in a garden blooming with sunflowers. Its main shrine, lit by dozens of electric bulbs and fragrant with Tibetan incense, houses a colossal gold-faced Buddha, best viewed from the small room on the first floor. The Museum of Traditional Himachal Culture, near the Hidimba temple, is worth a visit, which houses artifacts of folk art of the entire Kullu valley. Climate The temperature drops below freezing point in winter months when it shows heavily. Summers are generally mild and light, punctuated by monsoons during July - September. Place to Eat IL Forno - An Italian restaurant known for its spaghetti Bolognese, lasagna mushroom and pizza's particularly chocolate cake. Run by Roberta Angelone, restaurant with picturesque view is a must visit destination for any gourmet traveler in Manali. The restaurant has many visitors including ministers and film stars, including former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee and family. Mount View and Chopsticks - is a friendly place where you can order genuine Chinese food and not just chop-suey as well as momos. Things to Buy The cool nip in the evening air may well have you stocking up on colourful Kinnauri shawls, mufflers and caps; Pangwali blankets from Chamba and multi-coloured hand-knitted woolen socks from Lahaul. There are good range of thangkas, silver and turquoise jewelry available in the Tibetan market. You can check out Shop No. 12 Artefacts behind Bus Stand. There are wide range of locally made pickles, jams and juices. Natural oil like apricot oil for massages and shampoos are available in the shops on the mall. Bodh Shawl and Manushri - Sell good quality hand spun Kullu shawls in pure wool, angora and pashmina with colourful borders. Getting there By Air - The nearest airport is Bhuntar, 52 km south of Manali. There are flights to Delhi via Shimla. By Rail - The closest narrow-gauge railhead is at Jogindernagar, 135 km away. The closest broad-gauge railheads are Chandigarh (310 km) and Ambala (355 km). By road -The distance from Delhi via Mandi is 585 km, and from Shimla the distance is 270 km.
