Located even higher than Shimla at 7300 ft ASL, Chail overlooks the glittering lights of Solan, Shimla and Kasauli, which seem to be a part of starlit sky. This little mountainous hamlet combines the charm & beauty of a virgin & peaceful heaven with the splendour & elegance of a princely preserve. Chail is always known for tasteful & opulent style of The Royal House of Patiala. Chail covers three different hillocks; one having the highest cricket ground in the world (built in 1893) with the backdrop of snow clad Himalayas. Playing cricket here is a great experience in itself provided you must have a few balls to spare in your stock. The second hill houses the Royal Palace built back in 1891 by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh when he was expelled from Shimla by the Britishers. Set in approx. 75 acres of landscaped area, embosomed with towering deodars, the palace has a truly regal setting with spectacular breathtaking vistas all around and the third hill, the highest one is the seat of Sidh Temple dedicated to Sidh Baba which has a very enchanting & interesting legend behind it and as per local myth Sidh Baba is the protector of prosperity of Chail. The road to Chail bifurcates from Kandaghat (32 Kms before Shimla) on Kalka-Shimla Highway. This 29 Kms road first steeps down to Sadhopul, a beautiful picnic spot with a small ever flowing stream 'Ashwin River' and then this serpentine road passing through tiny timeless mountainous hamlets, meandering along terraced fields of paddy, climbs uphill lined with pine, oak & deodars and finally reaches to this beautiful, scenic & peaceful resort of Himachal Pradesh. Chail offers a number of activities i.e. Nature walks through Chail Sanctuary, bird watching, trekking, jungle camp fire, camping and fishing on riverside. The forest around Chail are alive with many species of birds and animals but it is best known for its Scottish Red Deers introduced by Maharaja of Patiala.Chail Sanctuary is also home for barking deers,wild boars and neel gai. |
